Backfield Study #5, 1989
30" x 20", 1989, $700
After sketches of the field behind my house, I decided to paint a picture of it. Because of the rigors of my job and having a young family, I decided to paint from what I could see from the yard. For that fact, this is another scene I've painted multiple times. The frame is hand-rubbed oil paint on pine. I learned this from a college professor and mentor who employed this technique graphically, when he won an international award for the design and artwork of St Mary's Catholic Church in Sioux Falls, S. D. This was our family church growing up in SF, but I never knew that until yrs later when I was in college.
